Tiger's Back!!
Sunday Mar 29

Tiger Woods, in his 3rd tournament back after missing nearly 9 months for knee surgery, won today at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. He won with a clutch putt for birdie on the last hole, a near repeat of last year when he did the same thing to win.

Tiger bested playing partner Sean O'Hair in a day-long duel. Sean was leading by 5 strokes at the start of the day, but Tiger steadily eroded that lead. He caught Sean on the 14th hole, and they went to the difficult 18th tied for the lead.

Woods won his last tournament in June 2008 - the U.S. Open - but had to have reconstructive surgery after playing while injured. That kept him out of action for nearly 9 months while he recuperated. This win puts him a 6 victories for this particular tournament, and 66 total PGA tournament wins. He will be riding high for the Masters, in 2 weeks.

Congratulations, Tiger!!

Duncan Sheik in McKinney
Monday Mar 16

Terry and I saw Duncan Sheik perform on Valentine's Day in McKinney. The venue was the old courthouse in the city square, which has now been converted to a Performing Arts Center. It is small and intimate, and every seat was good.

The show was opened by some of the younger members of Duncan's touring group, and they were amazing... they were doing originals by each of the members, and had just started trying to perform as a makeshift group.

Then came Duncan, who performed a wide variety of his material. He included generous portions of his current Broadway Musical, Spring Awakening. He also performed material from his new musical, Whisper House. Playing with him was his long-time guitarist, Gerry Leonard. (I got to meet him briefly and get his autograph.) He also did Barely Breathing, On A High, and some of my other favorites.

It all sounded great, and we had a fantastic time!!

Happy Holidays!
Friday Dec 26
Wishing everyone a very happy holiday season! Best wishes for all my great friends, family and loved ones for 2009!!

Adios, Mitch...
Wednesday Nov 12
From MSNBC:

Drummer Mitch Mitchell dies of natural causes...

Mitch was the drummer for Jimi Hendrix for all of his studio albums, as well as for most of his touring career. He accompanied Jimi at Woodstock. His drumming sound was considered an integral part of the Jimi Hendrix Experience sound. He played on such Hendrix classics as Purple Haze, Fire, The Wind Cries Mary, Manic Depression, Are You Experienced, Little Wing, Voodoo Chile, All Along the Watchtower, Crosstown Traffic, etc etc etc.

Although he did not do a lot after Hendrix, I consider Mitch's drumming to be an incredible part of Hendrix and his sound. I saw him play with Hendrix in May 1970. I always thought his sound was so interesting and unique, and perfect for Hendrix. Mitch was 61.

President Elect Obama!!!
Wednesday Nov 05

Congratulations to President-elect Barack Obama!

He ended up with 364 electoral votes, well above the 270 needed to win (can you say blow-out?) and more than I predicted yesterday. In fact, he did better than most polls had indicated.

I am SO excited, now we can get down to reversing some of the terrible policies of the Bush-Cheney-Rove administration.

Election Day arrives!
Tuesday Nov 04
A very exciting day today, I am throwing a party tonight to celebrate the Democratic victories! The main one, of course, being the election of Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States. We have bets going here on the final electoral count, and I have predicted:

348 for Obama (270 to win).

58 Senate seats for the Dems (60 to have a filibuster proof super-majority).

Should be an exciting evening!!
